About the Organizers

Contemporary Conservation

Working with some of the most renowned galleries, collections, artists and auction houses in America and abroad, the team of six internationally trained conservators specializes exclusively in the conservation of contemporary paintings and art objects. As part of this service, CC frequently consults with artists on the choice of their materials and the understanding of process in the fabrication and aging properties of their artworks.

Contemporary Conservation Ltd. was founded in 2002 by Christian Scheidemann, who came to New York after having practiced the conservation of modern and contemporary art in Hamburg/Germany since 1980. In 2009, he was profiled in The New Yorker as 'The Art Doctor', amongst an array of articles in publications worldwide. Scheidemann has also published widely on material matters of contemporary art and how they inform, trouble or intersect with aesthetics, ethics and value.

 

School of Visual Arts

School of Visual Arts has been a leader in the education of artists, designers and creative professionals for over six decades. With a faculty of distinguished working professionals, dynamic curriculum and an emphasis on critical thinking, SVA is a catalyst for innovation and social responsibility. Comprised of more than 6,000 students at its Manhattan campus and 35,000 alumni in 100 countries, SVA also represents one of the most influential artistic communities in the world.

 

SVA Theatre

Opened in 2009 after being re-envisioned by celebrated designer Milton Glaser, SVA Theatre is a world-class facility specializing in film, media, and the visual arts.  SVA Theatre hosts a variety of events year-round, both private and public, and offers original programming to the New York creative community.

Contemporary Conservation

As the integrity of a contemporary work of art extends beyond its physical principle, in its daily practice CC is continually negotiating the material behaviors and the concept of each work.
